I've got PIPS and one early bird....UPDATE AND PICS......

I'd say you're doing great! Congratulations

61 out of 104 have hatched. Had previously pulled out a couple of cracked ones and a few duds that I had candled. 32 still in the bator with some pipped. It's just day 17 today, so anything is possible. I would actually be quite pleased if this was it since from what I have read, 60% is not too bad for shipped eggs.

No casualties so far, but one spraddle legged.

69 and still some pipping going on. Here's a pic of 45-50 of them. I will put a feeder in after they are all in there and have had a chance to eat freely from the floor on paper towels.

My only two issues so far have been one spraddle-legged chick, but after 24 hours with a bandaid, the little feller looks like he might make it. With the bandaid off he still waddles slightly wide, but when he stops he gets his feet back under him. Before he was sprawled out in a complete spit and being dragged around by his toes by his brooder buddies. The other was a chick with some intestines or abdominal wall extruded out his belly button. I tried to push it in with a wet finger, but every time he cheeped it would scoot back out. It got smaller on its own and it must be gone now because I can't find him. All the others are doing great so far. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Omg. If you had about a thousand of those and you put them on the floor it would look like the carpet was moving lol. But it will probably look like that in the brooder when the hatch is over anyway.

I'm calling it at a 70% hatch. I still have 5 eggs in the bator, but I think I am done. I'll leave them in another couple of days just in case (today is day 18), but needless to say I am thrilled with 70% on shipped eggs and a first attempt. Thanks to Topisaw Creek Quail Farm (topisawcreekquailfarm.com) for excellent hatching eggs, and many thanks to the great information and those willing to share knowledge on backyardchickens.com.

I did lose the one with the intestinal protrusion after all, but I can't pick my spraddle-legged chick out of the bunch to save me. Very pleased and hoping for high survival for the rest.

Man, do they poop a lot!

There is no explaining how much they poop. You have to see it to know for your self. What a bird, it poops twice as much as it eats, lays an egg a day that is about 1/5 its body size & can still bulk up with meat in an amazing rate.
