I've Killed The Babies! *update*

Awww so sorry.I have put some egg's out of bator before becaase I thought they were done for.I Had put some in a plastic bag once and put them on the brick's out front for DH to put in the burn pile once.He picked up the bag and heard peeping.Sure enough was was still alive.I got it right back in bator and it did hatch.I almost threw out a duck egg once also and just a month ago almost chucked an egg the last one silkie was hatching into feild along with the dead one that didn't finish hatching and was lucky enough to hatch it too.I guess after those scenerio's I leave egg's in bator way too long.I had some rotten ones on Mon because I had left them another 5 or 6 days.I go crazy tapping on the egg's and stuff.I got another 3 no finish hatchers and 2 non pipped at all going out.Don't worry it happen's .Sorry you were close I would give ya a few chicks.I did hatch 2 more newbies yesterday and have about 10 in brooder and a lot graduated also.Soooo sorry about your chick's.Maybe next round will go better or you can find the broody a couple of newbie's.

I posted on the NC thread. Maybe someone closer has a few they can part with. MLZ, making too long a trip is economically impossible for me right now otherwise I'd be on my way.

I don't care about the breed, standard would make sense (all mine are standards) so they would not get picked on.

I am so sorry that happen to you, but you really should check CL in your area, someone is bound to have chicks available. I have chicks hatching Friday but I am over 3 hours from you. Good luck and hang in there.

Franklinton is in Granville Co. NC You can google the zip 27525 if anyone needs to know my location. I hope I can find a few day old chicks to put under her. I'm worried about her, as well as feeling crummy about those poor babies

Wow! If anything, your situation gives us all a lesson to learn from!

None of my girls have gone broody yet, so I am filing away your story as a just in case scenario. If you want fertilized eggs, PM me.
Thanks for being so honest...we all make mistakes. You should forgive yourself.

I appreciate that. I've certainly learned a lesson here - the hard way. All my eggs are fertile. My rooster Sid is a very thorough guy, super-enthusiastic about his job.

I just cannot handle the thought of her on the nest another 3 weeks and then the worry of babies in mid-Sept. Another 3 weeks of constantly moving her eggs back under her because she is a nitwit. I need to find some day old chicks in the N. Raleigh NC area over the next week. Certainly there must be some.
Weird thing is, I've read the posts in the egg incubation section and it seems that if the eggs go cold, forget it. Her eggs have been cold at least a half dozen times that I've found them and they were still developing normally. No doubt during the dreaded 'lockdown' phase she would have been happily sitting 2 nest boxes over on her sister's eggs when I got home from work. I'm willing to bet dollars to doughnuts that she would have hatched out those chicks. And probably promptly misplaced them.

I have done the same thing... The cure for the blues is to give her some more eggs. I am soo feeling your sorrow... I have done the very same thing... more than once.. Take heart and there there... It will be okay.. You are not a mean person.. It was a mistake and they didn't feel a thing... Put some new eggies and go have a glass of something delicious and forgive yourself. We all love you here on BYC... It WILL be okay!!! Hugs....
