Ive never wormed my chickens

Kickin' Chickin' :

If you search for safeguard on here you will find the dosage, I simply put it in the water for 3 days, easy peasy.

it would be hard for me to do anything with water because they have a stream right out side there shed so even if i out a water feeder they will just walk straight past it

I use Eprinex. It's a pour on for cattle but many are using it for chickens. It takes care of worms and lice. The best part is there is no egg withdrawal. You don't have to toss the eggs for weeks afterward. It is pricey for just a few chickens but I've heard some get together with other flock owners and have chicken worming parties. Dosages folks are using are 1/4 ml for Bantams and 1/2 ml for Large Fowl placed on the skin on the back of the neck.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but why do you feel the need to worm them now after 3 years? Any signs of worms?

As a worm preventive I use garlic, onions and red cayenne pepper. For 11 hens I would use 1 large onion, 1 full head of garlic and 1 tablespoon of cayenne pepper. Grind all together to a pulp and mix with your birds favorite treat. I've mixed it with pumpkin seeds before. My birds love this stuff.
I'm not saying its a dewormer but it seems to always improve my girls laying and I know its good for them.
Its strong smelling!

I've heard of apple cider vinegar helping to reduce bacterial growth in the water, but I've never seen any suggestion (much less backed up by science) that ACV acts as a wormer. Where did you read that it does?

Were they molting? Mine molted and stopped laying, the combs paled, but didn't really shrink that I noticed. They are just now starting back laying after the molt.

I have also used Apple Cider Vinegar for years, it is not a wormer though. It is rich in vitamins/ minerals, it lowers the pH in the digestive track, which reduces the chance of worms, but it does not prevent or kill them.
