I've run out of chick feed!

I kind of know how you are feeling, I ran out this morning and didn't know because Steven fed and didn't tell me! So they got scrambled eggs for dinner, and they'll have scrambled eggs and bread for breakfast!

Here's my trick. I buy the 50 pound bags of feed but when I first got my chicks I got a 20 lb bag that is my emergency bag. I will not open it unless emergency. But if I have not used it within 8-10 weeks I will use it but only after I buy another 20 lb bag that will be it's replacer. We live 30 miles from our feed stores so I had to think ahead.

That's a great idea!

Thank you all for your wonderful help!

My TSC ran out of pine shavings and the guy said they have not been able to get any for 2 weeks. He was also the only employee in the store and said they have a hiring freeze. There were 6 people in line and he was trying to help a guy order a commercial sprayer over the phone.

What is up with TSC?

My closest TSC was out of pine shavings, out of chick starter food (while they had 3 big bins full of tiny chicks and ducklings for sale!), and they were out of heat lamp bulbs too! I had to pay $9.00 for a durn red bulb at WalMart that would have been half that at TSC.

I'm sure someone will curse me for this, but my birds were raised on layer crumble. The local feed store got a shipment of chicks in but didn't have any starter feed. In fact, nobody on the island had any. One year later, my birds are fine, healthy, and lay tons of eggs.
