I've seen it in the Movies but is this how you do it?

Thanks everyone. So I will keep the feeder full but I should also borrow a dress from my grandmother and scatter scratch grain also, to give them something to do. Got it.

Ive heard you can do this too if you think they are bored...
Punch 10-20 small holes in a soda pop bottle and fill it with sratch grain. Make th holes big enough so the grain will be able to pass through. Then toss the bottle to the chickens.
They will poke and peck at it, like they do everything and some of the grain will fall out. It won't be long before they get the idea.

I use a red wiffle ball and stuff it with dandeloin greens.

I accidentally spilled some feed on the ground when i went to feed the other day, and my chicks LOVED it! They didn't want to go back to the feeder. They just kept looking around on the ground. It was very fun to watch, so i'll be throwing some on the ground from now on.

I've started doing that routinely rather than give them too many treats. Whenever I go out to the coop to check on things or gather eggs, I just scoop up a handful of their layer pellets out of the feeder and toss them on the ground outside the coop. They go nuts like it's the best thing they ever tasted.

Around here, in the old days, people fed table scraps and cracked corn, on the ground, only. And not just the old days. There is a woman down the road from me who sells home ground "chicken feed:" it is pure cracked corn. Her chickens free range. Not recommending this, just saying, it is the way it used to be done.

I throw Black Oil Sunflower seeds to my birds. As soon as they see me, no matter where I am, they run to me so fast that some even fly! It's so funny! I also toss out left over pasta to them as well as bread that I have cut into small pieces.

Gee, I should try the layer pellet thing too, but I'd hate to waste it.
