Lots of info on this site involving scaly leg mites, ivermectin etc. I treated all my chickens orally with 1 to 9 diluted ivermection, 0.1cc per lb. And instead of using mineral oil for immediate relief topically on the feet I soaked the feet in a neem oil solution.

Anyone have any opinions on the use of neem... neem powder, oil, bark or pellets?

Also, to eat the eggs or not eat the eggs after the ivermectin dose? I plan to do at least one follow up does of ivermectin 10 days after initial dose.

My outbreak of scaly leg mites is minor.... I saw it mostly on some older chickens and 2 hens that seem to be the chosen ones, the favorites, for mating... You all know how rough it can be on the favorites and I'm thinking they may be a little weakened from it and thus a better host for opportunistic parasites.

I hate to toss several weeks of eggs, especially since I do wildlife rehabilitation and could use them for raccoons, opossum, gulls etc.

Would love some opinions!

Thanks

There's no official egg withdrawal period after treating with Ivermectin, because it's not an approved product for chickens. I use it every year, and throw the eggs away for a week after treatment. Makes me feel better, that's why. I don't have any idea about Neem oil, except that it's not on the (VERY SHORT) approved list either! I got very ill after dusting everyone with permethrin (approved for use) without a good face mask; never again! Ivermectin is very effective, and safe, and much easier on me. Mary
