Is it safe to give a 2-1/2 month old Serama Chick worming treatment like Safeguard liquid goat wormer (Fenbendazole), Ivermectin, or Valbazen?

Does Pour on Ivermectin mean it is given topical?

I have never dewormed a 10 week old bird simply because they haven't been around long enough to develop a case of worms.

And yes, Ivermectin Pour-On is used topically and works well for mites however it is no longer a very effective poultry dewormer.

Well I noticed that there is like a red chunky mucus in his poop. Sometimes it looks like slimy raw hamburger meat. So far it has been 10 days since I noticed it. He would poop this 1 or 2 times a day but not all of his poop is like this throughout the day. My first thought was it could be stress. Then after the third day, I was concerned that it could be coccidiosis so I started him on corid. He is on day 5 on corid 9.6% oral solution. I am putting 2.5 ml in a quart of water. He doesn't drink much so I don't know how effective it is. Well I was just asking about worming just in case it isn't coccidiosis and it is the intestinal lining being torn up by worms. Otherwise I wouldn't put the litle guy through it. I am going to take a poop sample to the vet. Thank you for the advise. Why is Ivermectin not effective as a dewormer now?

Oooh, no, that is definitely cocci. And since you put him on Corid, that is probably why you don't see it anymore. He should be fine after today's treatment of cocci is done. I wouldn't bother with wormer anytime really soon, to give his digestive tract a chance to recover.

That is the issue. I put him on Corid but he still has one or two droppings of the red raw hamburger slim. That is why I am beginning to think it is worms or maybe it takes awhile to disappear.

From my understanding, it is normal for chickens to shed some intestinal lining. How long has he been outside and how long has this been going on? Could you take a fecal sample to a vet and have them examine it under a microscope to look for eggs/adults?

Also, do a Google search for "Normal chicken poop pictures" and there are a few websites with what is normal and what is abnormal for chicken excretions.

Thank you for your input. I plan on taking a sample to a vet but there are no vets near me that treat chickens. I am going to ask just to do a dog test on the fecal sample. The red in the poop has been going on for 12 days. Not every dropping is like this. The last 5 day I have been giving him corid and it hasn't stopped yet so I was thinking it might be worms. Thanks for the website.

Any other symptoms? What is his diet? Is he eating/drinking? How is he acting? Possibly he has not been drinking enough water, you can add medicated water to feed(so it resembles oatmeal)this gives added benefit of receiving enough amprolium. Usually after medicating with amprolium you would see no more bloody/runny poop after approx 24 hours. While treating for cocci, has the medicated water been his only source of drinking water and no vitamins given?

Post a poop photo w the red showing. You are aware of shed intestinal lining(normal)although i have never seen it as often as what you are describing. No i do not think a bird this young would have worms.

That is the reason I am thinking of worming because I am still seeing that slimy raw hamburger meat in some of there dropping every morning. I am putting 2.5ml of the corid 9.6% oral solution in a quart of water. I don't see him drink much so a couple times I put a few drops of the water mixture in is mouth. I am still seeing it. It is not that runny just moist. The pictures I attach are the dryer ones with less red. I will take picture of the current poop
.

Am I not mixing the right amount or giving him enough? Could it be worms causing the intestinal lining to be in the poop? He doesn't drink much so should I just give it too him orally. He is eating good and somewhat active and not puffed up in the corner when you go to feed him.
