Ivermectin toxicity in dogs

There is a heartworm preventative using guinness beer. Look it up, I can't remember the dosage, and it has to be the Guinness beer brewed in Dublin only.

It's much better than the chemicals, and given monthly.

I live in the delta next to rice fields and the heartgard is not effective in this area. Many of us use the ivermectin at the .1 cc per 10 lbs. It is effective. I have 2 rescues, a border collie mix and a red herder mix. The red one we suspect might be part coyote... I have used ivermectin for 8 years with no issues. And they have no ticKS or very few. I also use it on a 10 lb chiweenie (that got dumped at our farm) for the past 9 mo with no issues. My collie mix is 13 and red herderx is 11.5 years. Did not know about the gene mutation on collies and am thankful neither reacted to it. My friend who was concerned about toxicity reduced the amount to closer to heartgard's standards and her 70 lb golden doodle mix has heart worms again.

I've been using it for years & so has my dad. Altho he didn't tell me the reactions some of his cattle had till I told him I had a horse down. My horse was under it's affects for 3 months before it got through his system.

I also use it on all of my dogs but they have no reaction to it. I use the oral treatments as suggested by the vet. Which works out to be ten times the dose for a horse. So if your dog weighs 25lbs you treat with a 250lbs dose.

I wouldn't force a ng tube down it for at least a week.

My 17 months old labrador got ivermectin toxicity due to vet's negligence. We presented to the vet wth fever and anorexia and some reddish spots over his body. The vet prescribed Ivermectin 10mg daily for 10 days along with doxycycline. After 7 days of consumption, the dog started developing some unusual features instead of improving. We again visited the vet telling him abt the dog's condition. By the time, my lab had developed uncoordinated walking and dilated pupils, bt the vet didn't pay much attention towards these features and extended ivermectin for further 10 days. So by now my dog is nt eating anything, lethargic, unable to stand, unusually dilated pupils, urinary incontinence, etc
So can anyone suggest me anything I can do Fr him. :( :( :(

As a Australian shepherd owner I am well aware of ivermectin poisoning, I don't think I saw it mentioned but I use Sentinel heartworm preventative for my Aussies, you can test for the gene like was already said, but I chose to just use this brand instead, no ivermectin.
