Ivomec Eprinex to treat Poultry Body Lice?

Just wanted to share this published, peer reviewed article (which is supported by studies/research) and affiliated with UC Davis, a reputable source:
http://ucanr.org/freepubs/docs/8162.pdf

I just want to say that if a drug isn't specified to be safe for a particular species, you are at a serious risk for causing toxicity in your birds. Leave horse/dog/cat/cattle meds for the respective species and stick with poultry meds for poultry! If you notice at the end of this article, drugs that are safe for chickens are listed (and Ivermectin is NOT on the list).

My vet recommends and uses ivermectin on all birds. The smaller the bird, the smaller the amount used, and he recommends diluting the ivermectin for tiny birds (such as finches).

That's not really true.

Many drugs are used "off-label" and are perfectly safe at proper doses.

They aren't "specified" safe simply because manufacturers haven't done all the required testing for that particular species.

Many contain the exact same active ingredient, and the only difference is dosage.

With birds, it's best to use liquids only , for accurate measuerments

Ivomec has long been used for all types of birds as well as many other species, including humans.

When used with other methods also, it's a good way to treat mites in many birds.
There ARE better ways to prevent infestations
