Jack Russell that Bolts

I've only ever had one small dog and he was a bolter too. Worked with that dog a lot, finally just gave up, got him a harness and put him on a zip line. He had plenty of room to run and play with his toys and get his energy out and still be safe.

How come they shouldn't be tied? Just wondering the reason.

Not sure if that was what you meant, but it did sound kind of like suggesting to tie him up and never let him off. I *think* you meant put him on a leash when outside, which it totally logical. That's what I would have to do if our yard wasn't fenced. On walks both dogs are always leashed ( a chi mix and a lab mix), and they are such angels.

I have a bolter too, and even if you leash them/tie them 24/7, they can get away from you. Clips fail, leashes get dropped, stuff happens. I'm going to try some of the ideas mentioned here, and see if we get any results. Bolting is so stressful.

Thats what I thought they meant too, just to tie him up and leave him that why I put that lol shoulda been more clear

....Tieing a dog up usually makes them want to run more when you let them off the leash, but if you just gonna do it a couple hours a day thats ok...heres some good luck with whatever you decide to do

Honestly I would tie, leash walk and get a training shock color that you control. Id rather have my dog tethered and annoyed for outside time rather then squished flat like a pancake. Little dogs are just that...little. Something the size of a dane or even a lab people are more likely to see and attempt to stop for. A quick as the devil little dog might not even be seen until you hear the thump thump under the tires.
