I let my girls out for some sun and to stretch their legs this afternoon. I looked out the window and was horrified to see a hawk on one of my hens. I opened the door and yelled (get em) to my dog. She bolted acroos the yard and chased the hawk off the hen. The poor hen was bleeding profusely from her neck. I wrapped it tight and put her in a dog crate in the house. She is actually doing ok and bleeding has stopped!!

Good job JR!. I do hope your hen survives her injury. I have a JRT mix, but she needs to revisit her "leave it" training where chickens are concerned. Hope to accomplish that this spring, when the flock gets out for some free range time. I'd love to see my new roo kick her butt and teach her some manners where the chickens are concerned. She did very well, until her training collar broke.
