jamesway incubator

does anybody here have a Jamesway incubator??

I do.. a model 2940 220 V

in fact I have 3 of them..

Problem is, I do not have any turning trays..

anybody know where I can find at least one turning tray??

already went that route.. they do not handle old parts.. they told me to contact that guy in northern Minn. he had just gotten rid of what he had..

I put solid shelves in one of mine and use those automatic turners like in the hovabators and little giants.. this works well enough for now.. I also have a very old gqf sportsman and 8 of the styrofoam styles..

I can handle aboout 500 eggs at a time.. the most I have actually done is a little over 300
though..

didn't your incubators come with the shelves? I have one with all of the racks in it still and am not using it often

No, I got three cabinets for free but no shelves.. I did luck out and found a fourth one full of turning trays for $275.oo..

I still have not done any eggs in any of them though..

maybe this summer I will fire one up and try a batch of eggs..

I am just now separating my purebred flocks for hatching eggs.. in about 2 weeks I hope to start collecting eggs for hatching..

I have a flock of Barred Rocks, a flock of Delawares and a flock of Thai jungle fowl.

I also have geese, guineas, turkeys, peafowl, and some odds and ends of chickens..

I have been keeping up with the eggs by using 3 GQF Sportsmans ..

Funny thing. About four years ago, I contacted the guy in northern MN that has a web site offering all sorts of incubators and parts.

He drove a hard bargan. I drove hundreds of miles and unloaded three perfect Jamesway 2940 incubators without trays. He traded me trays to fill three incubators. He didn't have any place to keep them, so I put them just barely inside an old pole barn. Several other brands of incubators sat outside.


A couple years later, I put one incubator up for sale on ebay. It was beautiful, everything worked and it had all its trays. Well the guy up in MN, contacted me and peppered me with questions. It was like he was buying the Hope Diamond. I'm new to ebay and started the bidding at $10.00. Well this old guy bought it for $10.00. Then he wanted to know if I'd deliver it to him! I'm $00 miles away from him. The ebay auction said local pick up. Well he said he'd get back to me. Meanwhile, I'm paying storage on this incubator and I haven't heard a peep out of him for a few years. Last week, I posted on this site, talking about my incubators. Well, well, you'll never guess who called me and left a message on my phone? Yup. He still thinks he owns an incubator that I'm storing. I think he won't be able to afford three years storage. He'd like to buy the rest of my incubators while he's at it. I wonder if he thinks he can get them for the same $10 that he paid for the last one?

Makes me wonder if he surfs this web site and thought there was some interest in those old Jamesway 2940 incubators and wanted to get mine cheap and resell them.


Truth be known, there isn't any market for those old beauties. A real commercial operation has new ones with all sorts of electronic gadgets. The small time operation can't used a unit that churns out so many chicks. Add to that without the turning apparatus, the incubators won't work. The automatic turner pushes every other rod in the back of the unit, causing the eggs in every other tray to swing to th right. At the same time, the other rods are pulled, causing the other trays to swing to the left. I think they do this twice a day. This way, the eggs are packed in there like passengers on an economy air flight.


I expect when the weather turns warm, I'll be stripping a few of my incubators for spare parts, save out 2 or 3 (don't know what for) and burn the rest. Really sad. Not worth the trouble of selling them for a few dollars.

I just came across a Jamesway 1875, all of the wooden trays seam to be there but the top compartment is empty. I am not familiar with this at all and am not sure if the top compartment even was suppose to have trays. It is HUGE and HEAVY. Would be a nice conversation piece but to people really even use these to hatch anymore?
