Can you dip her beak in a vitamin and electrolyte in water mixture?

I can, and I will if she doesn't perk up by morning. She's only been out of the shell for a little more than an hour, though. I'll give her a little more time before I intervene much. Currently, she's snuggled in wash rag on top of a heated rice sock. That's how I warm up all my chicks between the incubator and brooder phases. I like to give them a little "snuggle" time, and that usually perks them up. I'm not worried about her; she was the one who pipped into the wrong end of the egg, so I'm sure she just needs a little time to get herself oriented to the real world.

Good luck with her!

Chick #3 was also malpositioned. Darn shipped eggs. :( Looks like it hit a blood vessel while pipping and bled out while I was outside doing horse chores this morning. That's the first time I've lost a viable chick at hatch.

That leaves egg #4, which is the one with the saddled air cell. I'll be watching it like a hawk all day.

Sometimes shipped egg's are like that if they have a good distance for journey. Plus, with this crazy weather that's been happening in places. I'm going to wait until spring before I order more of these.

It's a shame to have a chick make it to hatch and then have the bad luck of pipping into a vein. :hugs

Wishing you the best of fortune with #4! :fl

We candled Saturday night & still have movement in all 8 eggs! Unfortunately I’m realizing the humidity struggle. Our humidity has held steady at 35% for 2 weeks then dropped to 20% last night. Today I’ve been trying to steady it back at 35-45% until Thursday.

My last egg didn’t hatch. 2/6 isn’t a great hatch rate, but, for shipped eggs in January, it could have been worse. And at least one of the two chicks that hatched is a pullet!

I’ve got one more hatch of my own flock set up now for a Valentine’s Day hatch date. Maybe the third time will be the charm for me this year. We’ll see, anyway.
