JAN 28th HATCH!!! Who's with me?!?

Really, there shouldn't be a difference in lockdown times if all were put in the same day, but I truly believe that the cold temps in my house made for cold spots in my incubator. If you candle and see positive movement, go ahead and lockdown on the day you were supposed to. Worst case scenario you have late hatchers. This far along, having too much humidity a few days before hatching SHOULDN'T cause a problem...at least in my experience...good luck and keep us updated!

OMG that is one bator full! LOL!
I will cross my fingers for the little sinker... maybe he'll come thru ok...
mine go into lockdown on Wednesday am, so, I get to see yours first!!!
remember everyone... PICTURES are a must!

Ok.. COMMENCE OPERATION LOCKDOWN!!!

I just candled for the final time and only lost one more.. Unfortunately, the chick was a beautiful black chick with a few white spots on it and seems to have died TODAY sometime! I have figured out a trick... If I have the flashlight on top and see a small "blank" space below the air cell, I hold the light and egg with one hand and tap on the egg if I do not see movement.. In every egg that I didn't see movement, once I did this, the chick moved and I knew it was alive.. The egg that I culled was the ONLY one that didn't move.. I checked it 4 times throughout candling the rest of them before I decided it was definitely dead.. Sure enough, when I cracked it open, it was a perfectly formed chick but most definitely dead.. The only eggs i don't know if they are viable or not are Miracle's eggs because I could not see in any of them except ONE! There was 2 or 3 that glowed green so I'm not sure if they developed or not but the rest of them were so dark, all I could see was the air cell... So, I guess we will see on those if they hatch...

I also candled all the eggs from the CNY hatch and only culled two clears.. The other 14 were going strong so I am definitely happy about that!! I can't wait to have some little fuzzy butts to smile at!!!

LOL! i just got off the phone with my DH (he's on a business trip for a couple weeks) and i read him some of the posts that the other wives wrote about their hubbies being shocked, etc about the amount of chickens. one thing i can say, our hubbies DO love us! i am illegal....so he said i could keep 4 last year....so, i have 4...but this year....well, ordering chicks and hatching eggs etc....well.....i feel bad....hubby said i could have 4 - 5 new ones....well, i'm afraid it could be more.

it's just that it's going SO well with my 4 girls, secretly behind their 6ft privacy fence.....i'm afraid i may end up with a total of 14....i'm going to try my BEST to make it at least 12 though! i was joking and laughing with him and saying "look, i'm a loyal wife who also agrees and sees things your way 99.99% of the time"...then i said in a very small voice "except with chickens".

LOL... Sounds like something I would have said.... I do have a question... How do you get away with the girls? Don't they sing when they lay? Oh my goodness.. Mine make such a racket when they lay an egg.. Of course you wouldn't have the problem with the roos joining them but still.. they are pretty loud!!

I have some eggs in a Brinsea Mini Advance and some in a homemade incubator. I set the eggs 01/07 at 8pm, when does lockdown begin? Please help. I'm somewhat confused about this. The Brinsea manual says the eggs will stop turning 2 days before the eggs are due to hatch, that is day 19, right? The Brinsea is on auto, so I'll let it be. Someone please just tell me when I should start lockdown for the homemade incubator.
Thanks!

my girls are pretty quiet...especially Ginger and Winifred. i've never heard them sing the egg song. and my other 2....they did it occasionally when they 1st started laying. i figure if i have a problem with a super loud hen, i have 3 friends who live in the country and any one of them would take a loud hen off my hands. my 2 neighbors who live right beside us....i asked if they would mind if i got chickens before i even got any girls. so....it's really worked out well! if i get caught some day, i will sadly have to get rid of them...but don't think i wouldn't try again....and then i would go for solely Black Austrolorps...i hear they're very quiet! and if THAT doesn't work....well, i guess i'll get a parrot!!! lol!

Mine only sing the egg song when they lay a jumbo to EXTRA JUMBO egg.... COMPLETLY understandable! One of my EEs laid an EXTRA JUMBO for her 1st pullet egg.... the "singing" that morning... goodness! I would have been screaming too! That's like giving birth to a 15lb baby with your first pregnancy
