ok.. Here are my findings...

Started with 71 eggs..

Culled 21 eggs.. Of those:

7 came from fridge and only 3 had any signs of development...
6 came from the clutch I found in the coop, only 1 showed any signs of development
8 were those that I gathered, only 1 showed signs of development

When I cracked them open, the ones that did not show signs of development didn't look like they were fertile.. Not sure how that was since EVERY egg I've cracked open for eating were fertile.. I have 2 roos in with 11 girls in one coop and 1 roo in with 3 girls in the other...

Of the 50 remaining:

2 eggs I was unsure so I put a ? on them and put them back..
11 I could not see in at all! (Several of those came from the fridge so I don't expect them to hatch given the results from the other refrigerated eggs...
and 36 were healthy and and growing!!!

I put 5 more eggs in from yesterday and the day before for the CNY hatch and will be adding anymore I get today (so far 4)...

So, right now I have 54 in there (6 were refrigerated but too dark to see in!) and somehow I lost one... Maybe I miscounted when i set them?!?! I have no idea!!!

I sure hope you could follow all that!! LOL

hi all i am on day six, have 3 silkie eggs 4 cochin eggs and13 serama eggs in the bator hoping to get at least a few hens this time around my last hatch was a sad turn out only 5 hatched and of those 5, 1 was a hen.i cant keep roos so my one hen is the token house chicken for now until i get some more for her to pal around with. she is a serama and very tiny i weighted her and she weights 7 ounces. at 3 months.

And our third chick has hatched!

So far we have 3 virtually identical EE/BG crosses! It appears that the next to hatch was laid by either a GLW, SLW, or BA.... keeping

for at least 3 BLRW crosses, if not 1 pure-bred!!

A pip is a section of shell that they crack & push up slightly... you will definitely see it when you get your first one... espescially if you have had your eyes glued to your incubator as I have had mine these last few days!!!

I am an inexperienced candler so just do it on day 18.. just candled to put eggs on lockdown and some eggs look nice and full of chick.. others were clear

and 3 were questionable.. so I put them in the hatcher.. I use a small maglight in a dark closet..

Good luck
