JAN 28th HATCH!!! Who's with me?!?

When I woke this morning, I had 10 in the incubator. I moved them to the brooder because the party was getting out of hand in the incubator, lol. Added more water, and before I walked out the door, my husband yelled "you got another one out" but I just kept moving, lol..

Got home to another 10 sitting in the incubator, but one had to be put down immediately as it was dragging its intestines (not yolk, intestines) around the incubator.

While removing healthy ones (again big party out of hand) I found two still in the eggs that must have been banged about because it's like they were wedged against their "zips" to the point that one seems to now have a permanent tilt to it's tiny comb. The other has a "comb over" of its fuzz on its head. I pulled the top of their shells up just a little and both popped out and into my hand. Then another exploded out before I could even add more water! This is getting INSANE!!

So, yeah. I have 24 eggs still in the incubator, humidity is stabilized, all is well but that incubator REEKS of hatching stink. I pulled all the empty shells and as much "muck" out as possible but I am already itching to clean and sterilize the poor LG.

On the upside, I have tons of fuzzy butts and will post pics tonight!!

Oh, and the whole point in this hatch for me was that I hoped to get 4-5 BR pullets...so far of the two BRs who have hatched, both have girly physical characteristics!!!

Hello! My appologies, I somehow missed your post.

The embryo typically is on the side that is facing up, when you turn it it causes the embryo to slowly move to the other side, thus exersizing the embryo. It is not stuck to the shell, so you can breathe a sigh of relief, it is completely normal.

the dark blob that you see moving is the developing chick. and the darker dot or dots that you can see with in the over-all dark blob are the eyes and beak that are forming.

sounds like everything is developing just as it should be.

Thank you, very much! first time incubating here.

I'm hoping to improve my hatch this time. Up until now, I've just been moving the eggs to the hatching drawer in my sportsman's incubator. I couldn't just turn off the turner because I had other eggs in the 'bator. Well, I've now got another smaller incubator that I can put individual sets of eggs in for hatching. I hope it'll help. Keeping my fingers crossed. My eggs will go into lockdown this evening.

chicken eggs incubate for 21 days if you are on day 14 you still have another week to go. on days 1 - 18 the eggs need to be turned then on the days 19-21 you increase the humidity and stop turning chick will usually hatch on day 21 but can take longer have read up to as long as 27 days. hope this helps you out some. there is how to on the learning center at the top of the page you can click on that would probably give you more info or you could google how to incubate chicken eggs. good luck

I am actually on day 22 but.... The previous low temp has me concerned that I should back up that number. I do see a bit of movement (course it is REALLY hard to tell with the brown eggs and looking at a shadow inside of the egg). Just wondering how long I should give them before just saying I lost the bunch.

Every chick that I've had hatch, the pip was dry but this one has a bead of yellow that oozed out into the pip and then coagulated.. It's not dripping or anything and there is no blood so I'm hoping it's just resting... Only time will tell...

I did notice that the first one to pip was kinda just sitting there and peeping like crazy.. It was pushing where the hole was (about the size of a dime) and was not turning at all... I didn't open the bator but I did put a tube through one of the vent holes and upped the humidity to 65%... About 2 hours later, it's now zipping like crazy and I should have pics SOON!! I also have 4 more pips for a total of 8! Only 31 to go...

It does not happen all that much but it is not unheard of for eggs to go to 27 or 28 days if you have low tempe.. Leave them in the bator.. Unless one is stinky, what do you have to lose?

Sending good hatching vibes to you!
