Jan./Feb. 2014 hatch a long

Hahaha I agree being single is so much easier no one to complain when I wanna hatch eggs in mid winter and IMA guy so the heavy lifting isn't much of a issue only time I wish I had help around is for chores hahaha

I am sure there is no way I could have a turkey living in the house if I had a DH or SO.

My SO will never be a DH...lol I've tried that a few times already. Just doesn't work for me. They all end up being SOBs instead of SO...lol No offense guys. Not saying you are all that way. I've just had to deal with more than my fair share of them.

If I can't get it done on my own it doesn't get done. I don't depend on a man for anything. That being said, I do have an opening for a poultry loving roommate/companion...but not a DH...lol

I have never depended on anyone but myself.  I am too picky about the way I want things done.  If I had a second bedroom, I'd love to have a chicken loving roommate.  But I have a single bedroom house.  My last house was almost 3000 sq ft.  My son went off to college, I moved to Alabam for a job and my new house is only 765 sq ft.  I do need more storage only because I am now retired and have so many hobbies.  My bags of feed are on my front porch.  I'm sure my neighbors love that.

We could start a new thread- ISO chicken loving 'roommates' that never want to marry.

You start that thread & I will be the first to post...lmao

yes it looks like they are behind a little...when your looking through the small end of the egg your seeing the unabsorbed yolk. it's going to be fine...get your temps up and keep your humidity around 25% to 35% if it's a little higher with out adding water then your fine...I know it's dry here now and I have to add water almost daily...are you using a still air? if so temp should be around 101 if you have a fan 99.5...those are guide lines though small variations aren't going to kill the embryo...are you using more than 1 hygrometer? I use the kind that fit through the vent and can lay on the eggs....if your using an incubator that has it built in the lid it's reading temps at the lid level not the egg level.
if you have some loss I doubt it's due to the conditions you've described...it just happens

so in a few days we'll be looking at your chick pics

Thank You!! I'm trying to be optimistic here,

I have two eggs that do seem further along, they are from my flock, a couple EE's, I am going to leave them be until tomorrow then I'll go ahead and candle all of them again to see if there is any growth, DH wanted to see what I was talking about last night so we candled a few that I had marked as questionable and they were moving!! I am breathing a small sigh of relief for the time being... Just hoping I get a decent hatch

Woke up this morning, temp was 101.6 and Humidity was at 42

Whew! I'm glad chickies are resilient, because mine are missing a couple turnings. Had my first trip to the er ever last night...I got admitted to the hospital last night for a lung bruise but thankfully no broken ribs after I tripped and got ran over by a scared horse. They still have me here for observation but hoping to go home today. My DH will go home to chore and turn eggs if it's too long. I love my horses dearly, but am thinking I might try a mule someday because I hear they aren't nearly as spooky. I'm so glad I've got baby bunnies and chicks due in the next week, because it's going to be tough staying out of the saddle while I'm sore. At least I'll have something to fixate on!

Oh my gosh! I am glad that you are OK!

I hope you recover quickly! It's pretty easy to become obsessed with incubating, so at least you do have them to keep you busy.

Chicks, I have chicks everywhere. Well, in the brooder. Still have some working on it. Going to have a lot of BO's. I guess that. My other BO that pipped at the wrong end is now in the brooder doing well. There was another! It went into the brooder today too. My Rhodebars are being slow.

Oh wow! Just saw this. Guessing you are home now? I hope you are feeling much better. Take care! This kind of stuff can take some time I guess. You are the lucky one for sure. The most resilient! Thank goodness!

Oh no, I'm so sorry. I am new on horses. We have two. But haven't ride them yet. I have a bad back can't risk falling so we waiting for them to get used to us

I was just sharing something on another thread and it occured to me there are a lot of new people here that might be interested.

A friend of mine started getting interested in chickens after I started hatching and mine started laying. I gave her a few but they were not laying yet. She decided to spend extra to buy a trio of her favorite breed that were already laying age. I was with her when she picked them up. The place was beautiful, imaculate and the woman was beyond OCD. The birds were never as lively as the others but the woman she bought them from said they were a quiet breed. She has had them for several months now. Everything has been fine up until the day before yesterday. The hen got pasty butt and stopped getting up and eating and had a seizure the next morning and died. It looks as if she died of Mareks. The woman she bought them from thinks vaccinations are not needed and thinks medicated feed is wrong and harmful. Marek infects chicks and is carried around until something stressful happens. The immune system gets a little weak allowing the chicken to get sick. Mareks is highly contagious in the dander of the chicken. This means all of my friends chickens have the possibility of having this disease. I understand people wanting organic, hormone and medication free chickens. But if you go this route, you need to be aware of what can happen and that if you sell or give away any of your chickens, you can infect their flock as well.

I am sorry...............the hospital is never fun.....
I went to the Dr. last spring. They called an ambulance and transported me to the hospital..........
I was not a great patient..........did not want to be there and had a full incubator on lockdown.
They did not understand that concern.........

I told them if I could do at home what they were doing there..I was calling a cab and leaving.
We finally negotiated my staying one more night. I was not their favorite patient..........." O Well"
Had about a half hatch.......bator was bone dry............I had a bad asthma attack due to active hay cutting season...........
Getting a good mask this year........
