Just thought I'd post a pic of my new fuzzybutts. They're splash ameraucana, 1-2 days old. First hatch of 2014!

I incubated 11 eggs. 3 were clear and all 8 that went into lockdown hatched. Best hatch rate I've ever had on shipped eggs! Hurray!!! Hoping to get a good hatch next week with my wheaten/blue wheaten ameraucanas. I also just set 15 mottled ameraucanas, 12 blue marans, and 4 BLRW eggs. Next week I'm getting 6 favaucanas, 6 BBS and white ameraucana eggs, and 12+ blue double laced barnevelder eggs. Today I'm beginning construction on a new bigger double-decker brooder. I'll post pics when I'm done if it turns out well! :)

I have had some hatch at 50 and after a few hatch, the humidity will go up on it's own . Sometimes to 80.
It is important that the plugs be removed during lockdown....they really need the oxygen while hatching....
I don't know your set up......I move mine into the kitchen and put a pot of water to boil when I am fighting low humidity.
I can close my kitchen doors though so????????

I actually don't use the plugs at all. Just get the temp and humidity where I want it without them. They need air. :)

Splash Ameraucanas!

I've been wanting splash anything, but Ameraucanas? Where did you get the eggs? Are they yours? Babies are so cute, hens will be soo pretty!

I got these from eBay. They are going to be my project birds - they are split to the barbless feather mutation, which makes them look fluffy. Not a mix-breed but a mutation. I've been wanting to work on this for a while and I'm excited to finally get started. :) I love splash anything too. I have eggs from an all-blue marans flock too, so maybe I'll get a splash marans too!
 
it's official...2 of my tiny call duck eggs are developing....I deduce that I didn't find them originally until they had gotten too cold...she lays all different places, every time I collect eggs from her she moves....she can't sit right now too cold and I don't like that she wants to make a nest outside of the safety of the coops and runs...I'm excited for them to hatch....easter ducklings...or close anyway
 
Day 23 and I got a pip!!
Kinda freaked me out, happened while I was candling to check for progress!! Hurry up and got the humidity up...Now the wait
