Jan./Feb. 2014 hatch a long

Lol I bet they do my mother is who's wanting me to do it and she already told me I could build a 10x10 by 1 and half foot tall cage withwheels so the rabbits can sort of free range and when they ate the grass down where they are at move it she even told me I'd have to move it ever to days haha love how she has plans for me to work for her to get rabbit meat lol

Btw, my boys (3.5 and 2) are going to be super excited to see the ducks tomorrow. The three year old has been watching hatching videos with me and now understands how the whole "baby bird comes out of the egg" thing works. So I'm sure he's going to love telling all his friends at school about our new pets next month.

I respect people that can butcher their own meat but I just can't. My friend has just started. I could eat it just can't kill it myself.
I would be lying if I said it were easy, esp at first..... and I am still new to actually doing it myself. I would always make my husband do it....

I will always thank the animal, recognize it's life, and thank it for nourishing my body. I try to make them calm and comforted during the actual event so they don't have any fear.

after I did the meat birds, who I was not emotionally attached to, it made the other birds easier somehow.... de-sensitizing. before that, I would not do it.

I'm not saying you should!! this is just what I did...and I completely understand the way that you feel

That's the way it should be done, hats off to you. I wouldn't last one day at a butchering facility. I'd probably sabotage the place on my way out!!

I Lasted three days, threw up every night and finally admitted to myself I couldn't tolerate it.. mind you its not the butchering, I have always helped process our deer etc...
I once told my sister who couldn't understand how we could kill and eat the animals we raise that killing isn't done for the joy, its done for the necessity. We are meat eaters, I would rather raise my animals with kindness and care, knowing where the animal came from and how it was treated then some factory raised animal. Our animals are reverenced and the act is done quickly with as little pain as possible, and thanks are always given for the life taken to sustain us.

I suppose I have more of a problem with folks who have a problem with what we do, questioning how we can do it then with anyone else. Folks are desensitized these days, they go to the store and the meat is neatly packaged, they don't care what the animal went through to get there.

I don't do the actual killing, Jeff does that , but I jump right in and help process...My problem, I have a hard time for a few weeks, sometimes a month before I can really enjoy our meat...Took care of rabbits a month ago, have cooked up three, enjoyed my first one night before last..
Cant explain it, always been that way, its just me

Very well said. I couldn't agree more. We were meant to care for all life, and take it thankfully when needed.
