Jan./Feb. 2014 hatch a long

They are my own eggs. Our rooster was killed by a hawk last month, we were trying to bring a part of him back by incubating some of his eggs. This was our only chance. We started with 5 eggs, down to two. I will give them until day 23 and float test. I will open them up, if only to catch a glimpse of the babies we lost so much sleep over the past 21 days. If they don't make, I'll burry them next to their pops. I don't know if we will try incubation again after this. Don't want too many roosters because I won't be able to deal with them. (vegan, boyfriend eats the eggs). We only have four hens, and were very attached to our bumbly little flock. They had been doing so well up until lockdown.

Sending good thoughts your way!!

oh yes, I do remember your story... sorry, I wish there was more I could do to help :(

I will be very curious to see what is inside when you open them, if you take pics you can pm them to me. since they are not shipped they should have had a much better chance I would guess

in hindsight, I wish I had used some cheap white eggs from Trader Joe's to learn incubation on, would have saved me a lot of $$! TJ's sells some eggs that are fertile, they're just white leghorns, maybe you could hatch them and sell them as 1 day old chicks straight-run (non-sexed) on craigslist or something. My idea behind that is that they are cheap enough to be a learning experience, even if not all hatched, and white enough that you can candle and see inside perfectly.

Dang! Me and my DH love to watch this...lol..yep, as old as we are. I love music. Didn't know it had started..when is the next episode?
Not sure. I have it on the DVR.

When they get close to hatching they have several periods of rest, they look dead. They turn into postion and rest. They internally pip, rest. They externally pip, rest. Then zip out of the shell. Each resting period can last 1-24 hours, maybe longer. I have had chicks I didn't see move inside the eggs the last 3 days and then went to feed the chickens and came back to a completely hatched chick. Don't give up.

I have had day 25 hatches.....................Really hoping the best for you......................

I don't think I want to have more jolts and pinches... I have chronic back trouble...Took a gallon of milk out of the fridge last night while making dinner and threw it out again, I have two herniated discs, and sciatic nerve damage.... Supposed to have the GK this weekend but hubby wants me to call the kids and tell them I'm down with my back again...I just cant, they are due for baby # 3 in a few months and I was really looking forward to having the boys here with us for a few days and give Mom and Dad a break, it always seems like when they need me something has happened and I have had to back out..

And to add insult to injury I cant walk out to the back of the property to see my Chickens, have to allow Hubby and Daughter to care for them, I'll sit in here and worry whether the coop was cleaned out good enough, if they remembered to give them the feed ratio and treats I give and talk to my flock...Will they remember I always give Daddy roo the treats first so he can dole it out to the ladies before spreading it around for all the others?

At least I'm in here with my eggs... Going to candle tonight if I can after everyone gets home from work..

I truly feel your pain and I am certain frustration with your back.
I have the same problems.......Sometimes I do not even know what set it off. Slows me down for sure.

Hope you will get through this quickly...

I know for sure if I vacuum or lift anything heavy I will pay a price.

Two more big ole pips...............................

Not one of the Silkies though
I know they had a really rough trip in the mail......and the air cells were not great................
Maybe I will get lucky later today............

Oh I will...daughter still hasn't gotten around to go out and feed the flock... I'm trying to be patient but my chooks are used to me being out there by 8am...the frustration is more for me that I have to depend on others for awhile, even had to get her up to put my socks on for me

She is trying to get around for work so I will remain silent and be thankful I have her here in the mornings to help, hubby leaves before daylight so he cant do it. does no good to be a gripey invalid ..lol

*hugs* I understand your feeling... it is so frustrating, there is no better way to describe it... mine is not as severe as yours, but I also have a bulged disc in my back, and problems with my neck, from a car accident over a year ago... :( I'm sorry you cant see your chickies, that would be really hard.

did you see the new coop that Deanna built? Hehe she put it right by her house by her window, how perfect would that be!!

That would be perfect, at least for a few of my favorites, but I doubt Daddy roo would be happy to be separated from his girls

I will be patient, I will be patient.....
Back pain is just back pain, I will not ever believe one is worse then the other..I sympathize with anyone who has repeated pain of any kind!!

Aw! Don't give up yet! They could just be resting and are late. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!
