Jan./Feb. 2014 hatch a long

I gently removed any debris or nastiness on the eggs that I got. I'm not sure if I want to take the chance and wash them or not.

Yep, no washing. I do not know why, but my dirty eggs seem to be the first to hatch..I swear! I even said to my DH today as I picked up a dirty egg..Ooo, a dirty egg..he just laughed because he knows what I say about dirty eggs. Yes, if they have something that will flick off, then I will do that, but nothing else.

Yippee!! My 2nd shipment has arrived, the Salmon Faverolles. They're resting and I will set them tomorrow, so we'll be hatching on the same day!

My BLRWs will be hatching 2 days before the Faverolles.

Guys.... gals.... peeps.... guess what. The eggs arrived UN DAMAGED and NOT DETACHED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe it
These eggs were the furthest I have ever shipped eggs, they came from Florida to Oregon.
The seller told me that she has better luck when she doesn't write "fragile" or "hatching eggs" on the box. I figured why the heck not?
I might ask all eggs to ship unlabled from now on? Ha I just can't believe they traveled so far and arrived air cells in tact! I Candled twice!

I have some that I think I will set tonight. Bator is warming up. :) Farmer..if you haven't had Faverolles..you will love them. Just darling.

I was amazed by how fast they grew also. But, on the flip side of that, they don't start laying eggs till close to 28 weeks. Such a long wait! My girls have been laying for almost three weeks, and their eggs finally have some size to them. I'm practicing with mixes and silkies in the incubator, and am hopeful to start hatching Creams the second week of February.

I'm also wanting to breed cream crested legbars this year depends on how much pairs and trios are going for at the auctions in the next month or so

What do you use to make the hole? Will this encourage the chick to pip internally?

If it has been 24 days or longer, I would have opened them by now..again..that's me. Just open the big end and see if it's alive or not. If so, then let them hang out a while, you will have to help them along from then on. 24 days is a long time.

JD.. I have 7 EE's left so far. The others are looking good.

Then a couple of days later my Buff O's and Rhodebars will go into lock down. I can't believe that I still have the original 15 Buff O's going strong! That's the whole amount they sent! I've had to toss a few Rhodebars..and the air sacs on some of those are kind of big up one side..but not too bad.
The Buff's have the best looking air sacs I've seen in ages! If I get a 100% hatch rate with the Buff O's..it will be the first with shipped eggs in ages! Knocking on wood!

We did a float test, one sank, air cell up. The other floated air cell up (only air cell above water). I was too worried to let the water settle enough to see movement. Maybe I'll put my balls on and try it again tonight with the more promising egg, giving the water enough time to settle to see if I see movement. Eggtopsy the sinker? Or maybe hope the test isn't accurate and give it more time?
