Jan./Feb. 2014 hatch a long

Day 4. No veins or anything. By now I think I would be able to see something :(.

The air bubble thing is pretty big though. (The brown stuff is nail polish.)

I'd give it a few more days. Sometimes you can't see much at 4 days. I know I can't on my light brown eggs, and on my porous ones, it's near impossible until day 14!

When are your eggs coming? How are your guinea eggs doing? I need to buy a few and a few turkey eggs. I have 2 male guineas that need girlfriends and a Max that really needs a girlfriend.

I had to work late. When I came home I couldn't find Max. I was so worried. Then I found him.

It's supposed to rain at midnight. I almost got him down with his vitamins but he changed his mind. I tried chocolate ice cream, cheese burger and even vienna weenies. He is determined to be a real turkey tonight. He'll probably want in after he gets soaked. It's so lonely with out him I haven't slept alone since Max has hatched.

yippee!!! that sounds like a fun hatch love mixed breeds :D

I dont think you can confirm fertility without breaking it open? if you incubate and candle in a few days, you should know for sure when they start developing veins around day 3 :)

That's what I thought but wanted to ask the ones here that know a lot more than I do!!
I'm so exited!! Got the bator heating up in the spare room, ready to put this bad hatch behind me!!! :thumbsup

For both of these situations: Wait at least 7-10 days before tossing clears. By 10 days any still completely undeveloped will be very obvious. I usually don't even candle until after day 7 & again at lockdown.

OK, I have never waited that long because I was afraid they would explode on me lol... But good to know, I'll do it in hopes that I don't toss a viable egg!

Risk of exploding eggs is actually pretty rare as long as the eggs were fresh & unwashed when set. Eggs with cracks are most likely to leak or explode since bacteria can get in more easily. A rotten egg is pretty easy to spot when candling once you have seen a couple. They will have grey cloudy haze that sloshes at first. Then it turns into dark blobs & fills the egg quickly. You won't see veining. Best indicator you have a rotten egg: You will smell it when you open the bator. A lot of us follow the rule "If it doesn't stink, it stays." I pitch stinkers & leakers.
