Here too, they get straight crumbles and eat every piece.

I'm going to have to go have a talk with my coturnix babies downstairs...and the last batch.

I guess I spoiled them using the grinder on their Manna Pro (the highest % feed I have available here). Checking a new store out tomorrow since I'm on my very last 5 pound bag of Manna Pro & go through a bag a week for the buttons.

In My Experience Manna Pro Is Pretty Small Crumble To Start With... I Noticed It Looked A Bit Smaller Than Purina And Southern States Gbs Crumble... And Had Lots More Dust To It As Well.

I think I started grinding after I had a chick hatch and I grind for them the first 3 days. When I have ducklings (due date - XMAS DAY) I grind seeds for them. I think I figured I had to do something special for the quail to. Besides I have that grain grinder and I have to use it to get my moneys worth.

Besides, I think they eat more. Oh wait, that makes more you know what.

I've been trying off and on to find feed for months. I've been on a quest this week for Purina. I've started calling down the list, beginning with the places closest to me. I'm trying to avoid driving an hour or more but may end up having to branch out that far. So far, most places don't even know what Gamebird means and one flat refused to order ANY nonmedicated starter for me...

I am not a purina fan. When I switched my birds to Manna Pro, I was very happy with the outcome. I have my own recipe for the buttons and the Coturnix. I don't just use straight feed.

Quaillady, do you mind sharing your recipe? and do you put finch seed in with the crumble for Coturnix or just for the buttons. Purina has an awfully high salt content. I can't find a breeder/layer feed anywhere closer than 200 miles [for Southern states]. I HAVE to get something tomorrow, am down to a pint of crumble and leaving for the weekend on Wed.

I blend in Manna Pro Gamebird Showbird with oyster shells in a blender for the babies....Purina has too high salt content, yes...the methionine...

For adults: Manna Pro Gamebird Showbird (unblended) with blended oyster shells and finch seed/parakeet seed.

ETA: Adults get mealworms once a week
