JANUARY 2015 Hatch-A-Long

Ok so I thought I wouldn't update till one hatched because yesterday was incredibly exhausting and I thought I'd rest today... however I'm TOO excited to rest.

Got home about 9pm last night, I was so worried id already have an early pip so I rushed right over to get my incubator ready for lockdown and mark air cells on my eggs. I opened the lid and I hear crazy chirping... eeek! That put me into super fast mode. Began candling the eggs and marked a few air cells then I realized that would take way too long for 22 eggs and if there are any pips I gotta get the humidity up. So I decided to just find where the big end of the air cell was and face them up without marking them. Finally found an egg with a tiny little pip, almost missed it. So I was careful not to move that egg too much. Got all the eggs situated and went to work raising humidity. I waited up for a bit to make sure temp and humidity went up. But like I said I was exhausted so I was out like a light after that.

Surprisingly woke up to 3 more pips. The first pip is still working at it but I'm getting a little worried. No one was home all day yesterday so I have no idea how long it's been pipped. The humidity was only in the 30s when I got home. It's still alive for sure but not making as fast progress as I want to see.

Meanwhile, I went to work unpacking and doing laundry... I'm now up to 9 pips! This is crazy, day 21 doesn't even start until 1120pm tomorrow! I am beyond excited. This is definitely going much better than my first hatch. I'm just praying these guys actually make it out of their shells now especially the one that pipped first.

Congrats on your pips, keep us posted and remember to share some pictures when you can :)

Day 14 here, just weighed & candled my 12 silkie eggs. Active embryos in all ~ woot, woot. My only cocerns is the air cell development, I have never used weight as a form of measuring correct air cell loss and might I add I'm horrible with math. So far I have had 4.5-5.0 grams of weight loss in all the eggs. Can anyone tell me if I'm anywhere near where they are supposed to be for day 14? Thank in advance if anyone can help :)

Is your top open for this picture?  I see the corner of a clear---something" in the middle of the picture.

That does look funny...it's the reflection off the back of my iPhone, looking thru the window. That little booger was completely out and looking around five minutes later. It's huge! It was in a long egg. I've got a BO egg that is rocking that I'm expecting to pip soon, but those eggs are only about 1/2 the size of several of the Am eggs. :jumpy

meet Bawk bawk! Checked on it at 1215, hadn't made much more progress, left to pick up my kids from school, got home about 1245 and it was out! So excited. A bit confused though, it was a white egg labeled leghorn but it's a black chick. It's pretty tired and still not even completely out of the shell but it hatched so I'm so excited! No new pips but a few of the 8 remaining are making a little progress.

Is it normal foe the chick to still be partly in the egg like 2 hours after it hatches? I've only had the one hatch last time and she popped right out and was flopping all around. I assumed that's what they all did but this one is not really making its way out of the shell and just laying there with its eyes closed.
