JANUARY 2015 Hatch-A-Long

it's been busy over here Purpletie3! I've had 3 hatch, have 1 zipping, and I have I think 7 pipped. I saw 1 egg really shaking but so far no pip on it. That leaves 10 eggs that are quiet but I am so not worried since today is only day 19!

My first one that hatched is finally completely out of its egg and trying to stand and walk around. It appears to have quite the comb already so I suspect it's a roo but that's ok! I was scared to try again this 2nd time since my first hatch was horrible and with all that happened during this hatch I was pretty concerned it wasn't gonna work out but I am pleasantly surprised and ADDICTED to hatching. This is so much fun!

Question: do you always hatch in cartons? Pros and cons (other than the obvious, air cell up)? And, do you cut a hole in the bottom of each cell of the carton?

Ive had a lot better results hatching in the cartons. Yes the bottoms are cut out. I usually cut the tops down more, but I was behind and lockdown snuck up on me

a little late night / early morning surgery. seems my incubator sprung a leak which caused the humidity level to drop. now I have a couple chicks that are shrink wrapped in the egg membrane. YUCK. hope I can save these two that have pipped.

Well we have everyone but 2 hatched out now, barred rock and rhoad island red mixed with EE. I have never hatched before and have never had this many chicks!

I know EXACTLY how you feel!! SAdly...i had to chuck out 7 eggs today...they were in the bator for 25 days!!! On day 14-17 the power was going on and off the WHOLE time...so i think that is whre the problem came from!
