January 2021 Hatch-A-Long

Pics
Ack I just realized I may not be home for hatch day! I’m helping my dad move, and I’m planning to come home on day 21, but my rooster is a banty and his kids always hatch a day or two early. I’ll have to get them set up in the broody pen before I leave.

Well it’s day 23 here and I had just about given up on any of these eggs hatching after the problem I had with low incubator temps. But when I woke up this morning I found 2 chicks had hatched! No more pips so I think that will be it.
I had planned to sell the chicks from this hatch but they are so pretty I think I will keep them. They look to be pure Swedish Flower; one is black & white and one is blue & white. I’ll take some pics once they are in the brooder.

There was a significant die off of the trader joe's eggs over the weekend. 5/6 eggs quit. Possibly a temperature spike/drop that affected only the most delicate of eggs and 1/7 local eggs. The only TJ egg left is the one who's always been quite a bit stronger and more developed since day 1. The remaining local eggs look fine.

I purchased 2 Govee bluetooth thermometer/hygrometer on Amazon. They were $11.89 each. They can't really be calibrated as they're digital, so I won't adjust any setting around them, but they will alert me to any abnormal high or lows (I set the parameters) with an alert sent to my phone. I'll also be able to track temps in the app. This will be my first time using them but so far so good.
