January egg swap~~Sign-ups closed~~check emails for shipping info!!

Looks like we got a nice turn out for a Jan. swap. Hopefully, everybody will have a great time. I am finally able to join this one. I can always sit down with yer hens and tell them a scary story so they start popping out those green eggs again.

Nothing to too scary to make feathers fall off. Thats all you needed then balled non laying hens running around. At least theirs necks might be after the story.

don't feel stupid, like i said, i don't know if anyone is ever 100% sure...

technically yes, anything that has ameracauna or aracauna in their backgrounds is considered an EE...

for this swap, and the crazy egg train, EE are considered pure if all 6 of hte required eggs to be sent are green or blue...

there's a designer train that's for crossbreeds and fun stuff that it wouldn't matter which color EE eggs you sent...

just a little technicality in the rules for these 2 particular events....

i have little 9 week old chicks running around that are technically EE's.. their mom is a leghorn and dad is my EE roo... thay're cute as can be.. i still call them leghorn crosses, but they have muffs and beards.. and they're mostly white with a black feather here and there.. lol...

Ok. So I can continue to sell/lilst them as EE but for this swap, it is a No. I go it....
Thanks....

Do I dare ask....Frizzles....

lol.. just to confuse you further, the EE's can be swapped here, they just have to be considered LF mixed if they're browns and pinks.. lol..

and i'm pretty sure frizzles are pure either bantam or LF ... that's a genetic mutation not a different breed...

the swaps are a ton of fun and shelley's awsome for organizing them... i want to play so bad, but i'm alreayd behind.. i owe floridamama 6 eggs from the designer train.. i may have to break down and buy her something fun soon...

What a debate!!

If I'm not mistaken, the green egg gene is carried by the rooster, so if you have EE that lay green eggs that are with a green egg-hatched roo, they would be 'pure' for this swap. Monkeyinaroundfarm's eggs should be 'pure' EE, since any pullets should lay green eggs, though I'm not sure if the roosters from that mix would carry the green egg gene? You'll have to get back with me on what the 'experts' say. If the roos and pullets both from your mix would carry the green/blue gene, they would be considered pure for this swap.

A purebred bird is one that consistently has the same characteristics. So if you have a flock of birds that lay green/blue eggs, and the pullets hatched from this flock also lay blue/green eggs, that would be a consistent characteristic.

Frizzles and sizzles are also considered 'pure' for this swap, because they have a name. Like a labradoodle dog, they are mixed, but they are also desired. I consider them a 'designer' breed.

The reason EE's are considered pure is because no one has complained. Some EE's are mutts, but as HBuehler said, some are not. 2 pure ameraucanas that are of different colors, or not a recognized color, are not considered ameraucana. Ameraucanas must breed true. So those are considered EE's.

Hopefully, those of you that send 'pure' EEs will send those that are green or blue covered by a roo that hatched from green or blue.

This would make them 'pure' for this swap.
