i have two batches of eggs hatching today & tomorrow from fellow BYC sellers. Some are EE'ers and some are SLW mixes. So far 4 of 15 are out - love those little fluffy butts!!

I know just how you feel. I have two healthy active chicks running around in the brooder but 12 silent eggs staring back at me from the incubator! Its only day 22 so I haven't completely given up hope but with no sign of a pip, things aren't looking good.

Its very depressing. This is my first ever hatch and I have learned a lot. These eggs were some of my own and some that were given to me so at least, if nothing else hatches, it was a fairly inexpensive education. I sent out my egg order for my next hatch this morning. Hopefully, with what I have learned to do and not to do from this one, the second time will be much more successful(especially since I'm paying for this bunch). In the meantime, I at least have two beautiful little fluffy butts to entertain me. They are EE/Salmon Faverolles and one has four toes per foot and the other has five toes on each foot. When I put my hand in the brooder, they both come running to sit on it. They are already very spoiled!

About 1 more week to go until my hatch. The eggs are looking good so far. I think I have two good ee eggs and the other two are clear. Still can't tell in the maran eggs so they will be a surprise.

The double yolker is running about a week behind and seems to be developing. The monster egg has a crease right down the middle of the egg that makes things hard to see. My biggest worry is that the air cell is right in the middle of one side so if the chicks aren't positioned right they are gonna pip and drown. Once I can hear them peeping in the egg I will slowly intervene.

I HAVE A PIP!

One of the Silkies! There is a large hole in the side and I can hear the occasional peep and see movement. Save the Fav, you were right - I just needed to leave. I went in to town to buy groceries (in a very dismal mood too) and when I got home, of course I checked the incubator, just in case. . . and there it was! I am so happy!

It just goes to show, don't give up too soon.

Yay, congrats on your additional pip! I'm wishing you good luck and hoping you have some more hatch stragglers! The less dead eggs, the better, of course.

It's good you've learned a lot, though, and will be prepared for later hatches.

I think we both did the right thing using our own eggs and free eggs instead of popping in expensive eggs right away! Better to experiment with free eggs the first few times and then be prepared when expensive eggs come!

Your two sound adorable--I love it when chicks are so friendly like that!

Let us know when your silkie is all hatched!

I found something neat and someone may have already mentioned this, but if you have access to a stethescope use it and put it on top of your bator, that is if you are using a styrofoam or plastic bator and listen closely, we done this 2 days ago and it was amazing we could hear the chicks pecking at the shells and the ones that had pipped you could hear a chirp every once in a while. Just a thought!

I need to get pictures soon my first bantam faverolles chick from my flock! Its is a solo chick so it is making lots of noise I don't have another hatch due for 10 days.
