January Hatch Buddies?

I have a bunch of silkies due around the 7th... first time for silkies for me!

My first ever chicken adventure is underway and due to hatch Dec 14th (15 BCM eggs). How exciting!!

I will wait till Jan 3rd (10 days) to candle...

I should be getting my eggs tomorrow! Eeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got my hydrometer tonight and have it in the bator, just waiting to see what it will read. Then I will calibrate it overnight. My biggest problem right now is that the darn thing is HUGE and I'm not sure where to put it in the bator. I may just have to forgo the 7th egg so the darn thing will fit.

So far, that's the only think I don't like about having the smaller bator. It was a good thing for me, because I would always hatch the max if I had a bigger one, and I certianly don't need to be swimming in chickens! Haha!

Today,day 7, I decided to take my clear(2 out of 4) candled eggs out of the incubator, in fear they would "explode" like I have read about. Very nervously, I took them out to discard. My curiosity got the best of me and I decided to crack them open......fearful of making the wrong decision. To my relief, they were plain as store bought eggs!

I have 10 Aussie crosses to on news years eve/news day. 13 Ameraucanas, 12 Aussies to hatch on the 7.

oh i think SG are the cutest things in the whole world!!! i hatched one out last year, turned out to be a roo, so i gave him to a friend of mine. i just saw him a couple weeks ago, he was crowin' away! still cute.....but the SG chicks!!! there's none cuter IMO! absolutely adorable!!

Why is hatching so stressful?

I couldn't hardly go to sleep last night because I kept thinking the Huge Golden Buff egg might have fallen out of the egg rack!! I'll be glad when these hatch!

If i set some eggs new years day can I be a january hatch buddy??? They should come out on the 21 or 22. Then I am going to set back the next day and hatch some valentine chickens. I guess there needs to be a "sweetheart" thread for feb.
