I need a quick reply to this!! I might be going to town tonight and won't be back until tomorrow night so...

I have 8 + 4 more Button Quail eggs that are going into lockdown Saturday evening, hatch days the 11th and 12th. My problem is that I have 3 more button eggs that were set 2 days after the 1st and 2nd batches. They're due the 14th. Then I also have 2 chicken eggs due the 17th. I have a 1588 Genesis Hova-Bator - it has the full view plexi-glass on the top so I can view the hatch process etc. I am going to town tomorrow and I'm going to get some of the rubbish shelf liner stuff for the incubator and the brooder. I do have another incubator, but it's a homemade one that a guy gave me and I know it hatches but the temp is 101-102 steady and it has automatic turners but it gets stuck and won't turn so I have to turn them by hand. I'm stumped! What should I do? I would prefer not to move the other eggs out to the other incubator but I will it need be. I was thinking I might be able to just take the turner racks out and put some rubbish shelf liner in the bottom then put the racks back in and place the eggs that are due the 11th and 12th on the bottom and take them out as soon as they hatch. Like I said before, I have to go to town tomorrow so I won't really be hear to watch over them. Also, how is the best way to put the shelf liner stuff in? Just take off the lid and put the eggs under a heat lamp or something until I get the 'bator fixed up?

Thanks!

I have done what you are suggesting, putting the paper under the rack. So could you place the ones that are about to hatch in the homemade bator? If done quickly would not hurt if preset. Also I have split the diffrence in hatch days with to diffrent hatches that are day or two apart. Hope this helps

I plugged in my other incubator. I put the water pan in and I'm waiting for the temp to get up to around 100 before I stick the eggs in. Will it hurt the eggs to be stuck in tonight even though lockdown isn't until tomorrow? Thanks much!

Are you counting the day you put the eggs in the bator for saturday to be the 18 day? If not then saturday would be the middle day between the to hatch days, I think it would be okay because today would be day 18 for the first hatch and saturday will be day 18 for the second hatch. Also you are leaving in the morning correct? You will be back on the same day? If today is day 18 for the first hatch (counting the set date) then you would be okay placing both hatches in the other bator late tonight in lockdown mode. I hope this helps.

Yep me too!!! Out of 20 eggs I have 7 that I can see cause there white and lite brown eggs. The other 11 are dark brown and green eggs and i cant see

So what kind of lite should I use to see I have a led mini mag lite and a cheep led lite but I cant see nuthing. My dw says "keep shining that lite in that egg and you are going to blind them" so can you blind them? Must put down the lite must put down the lite!!!

Button Quail only take 16 days to hatch so Saturday will be day 13. Yes. I put the first two batches in the 27th and the 28th of December. It depends, we may leave tonight, or early tomorrow morning. We will be back really late tomorrow night.
Another question: The humidity...will it hurt if I just put the small box that will have the eggs going into lockdown in my Hova-Bator - will the less humidity hurt the eggs? Can I fill both water troughs up-will that hurt the eggs that aren't in lockdown? Can I just put the eggs that are going into lockdown tomorrow in the hovabator? Does the more humidity matter alot?

It depends on the outside himidity? I try really hard to keep mine at 70% to 75% in the last 3 days. You can fill both troughs, but check humdity before putting the eggs over in it. You do not wnat it above 80% if you can help it. I had a very bad hatch at 80 to 85%. I look at it this way the hen gets off the nest and the rate rate for hens are pretty good, say out of 10 eggs 8 hatch is very good. My last hatch I had 25 out of 26 but that was under two broodies.

wow! i've had some great hatches! i have a total of 16 chicks!! (5 are Ameraucanas and the rest are BCM) i have a friend coming tomorrow who has a farm and she'll take some or most off of my hands (unfortunately

) i would keep them all if i could! i'll post pics soon, but i can't now cuz we JUST got our new camera in the mail today, the battery is charging. out of the Ameraucanas, 1 is black, 1 is a very dark blue, and 3 are a beautiful light blue! very pretty! i had a total of 3 batches from 3 different people. the last batch had a HORRIBLE hatch rate cuz it took forever to get here (5 days) and the corner of the box was smooshed, and they weren't packed very well. only 3 hatched out of 13. my 1st set of BCM eggs hatched the BEST....they got here very quickly in the mail and were packed beautifully! out of 12 eggs, 10 made it to lockdown and 8 hatched. they're all so cute!!! it's weird that i had a couple "sticky chicks".....i've read that it's from low humidity.....i have 2 questions about that:

1. why is it from LOW humidity? when they come out, they look SOAKED! so why isn't it from high humidity?
2. if the above statement is true about low humidity....why aren't ALL the chicks sticky? why only a couple?
