Last night around 11:00 the electricity went off for two hours! I had 26 eggies in the 'bator ( some which are going to hatch
in the next two days ) so I about had a heart attack!! I had to bring them by the fire for the whole time until the power came back on. The eggs stayed around 100 so hopefully when I candle tonight they'll be okay!
Mine are in lockdown, due on wednesday, but no peeping or rocking... I can't help but be kind of leary. I don't want to get my hopes up for nothing. I kind of expected to see or hear something by now. The eggs were too thick to candle and no matter what light I tried I couldn't make out anything useful. Some of the air cells looked odd shaped, but I couldn't see a heartbeat or veins or a dark mass or any of that. I tried to float test when I locked them down but didn't notice any movement in any of them whatsoever. None of them sunk though. On an upside. I found a couple of members that I may be able to buy some local adult chickens
I figure with a couple broody hens my next hatching attempt should go much better, and my sons are so excited to finally have some pet chickens. If any of the eggs hatch this week I'll be ecstatic, and they will have a couple chicken momma's as well as me to help them along. I'm loving BYC....
I'm setting some Key West chicken eggs tonight. Also a few pure silver Phoenix eggs and a few mixed eggs. They should be due Jan 31st. I have my old LG bator that I should of drop kicked by now, so we will see how it works this time LOL!
Thickness of the shell is not my issue for not being able to see anything, it is the green shell that makes it difficult.
Remember that it might take some extra time to incubate if the temp in your incubator has been cooler or fluctuating. I too am trying to keep this in mind with my clutch... I am on day 22 for group 1 and these eggs have been rocking for 2.5 days... still no sign of pipping, peeping or popping out....
hoping for it to happen soon though... for their stress level, AND mine!
