January Hatch Buddies?

I have 60 quail eggs due on the 28th, and then 6 mix breed chicken eggs due on Jan. 30th.

have eggs in lock down as we speak. first time here! hope all goes well i have 7 out of the 10 rocking in the bator only been in lock down for 24hrs. How long after they start rocking do they take to start pipping and then zipping. this is nerve wracking

I have 1 lonely egg in lockdown, it is a fertility test that is doing great! My pre-lockdown candling showed a dancing chick inside!

Based on a recent experience with a chick that did not allow the yolk to absorb before hatching - do not rush them! When they are ready, they will hatch! And if they don't hatch, that is way better than them hatching and being in pain and suffering until they have to be put out of their misery! I was so excited for my last eggs to hatch, that I was cheering them on, whistling to them, gently tapping on the bator and blinking the light on and off. The 2 eggs hatched, but one of them had not finished absorbing its yolk and had to be put down a few days later. Hardest thing I have had to do in a LONG time!

It took a bit of nerve to write that above, I don't want to discuss and I am not really a hugger, just learn from my mistake. Don't rush chick hatching. If you must watch, do it quietly and do NOT help!

I hope this post will be taken in the spirit of helpfulness it was intended and that it does not spark a "help or not help" discussion. This is just my opinion based on my experience.

Everyone is talking about lockdown....if my eggs are under a hen am I supposed to do anything special towards the end of her 21 days?

Anybody else have some hatching on Monday?

Today is day 13 for me. First hatch. Started with a dozen Coronation Light Sussex eggs. Last candled on day 10, 2 quit early on, and 4 were clear, the other six were going strong at that point. It's so hard to just leave them alone, but I'm determined not to mess with them til lock down. I also really like my little Brinsea Eco, seems to really hold steady on the temp and humidity. Good luck to everyone!

As I get closer to lock down, I'm still trying to decide whether or not to use the egg carton. I know this topic has been kicked around a lot, but any thoughts on it are appreciated.
