Well most of the coturnix babies due today have hatched.Out of about 500 eggs I have about 60 or so that have not hatched yet,but still pipping...So we'll see in the morning how we look.I went to sleep last night with about 4 babies hatched and a couple of pips, and woke up to (as my daughters call them) 'popcorn chickens' jumpin all over the hatching tray.Thank goodness I put covers over the trays. Now the brooder looks like it has lil cockroaches or crickets all over...lol... And my one lil lonesome button has a few new buddies to raise. The last ones grew up ...lol...
Came home today to 2 of the 6 eggs pipped and I can hear them!!!!
I won't be able to sleep tonight, I sure wish I could bring mama Lola inside with me...
Think the hubby would notice lol!
Today is day 20 for me and I showed your pip picture through the window of my incubator.. hopefully my eggs will get that competitive spirit and be pipping when I get home from work..
I only got two chicks from 16 shipped eggs.. hoping for more from this group.. 11 candled goot..
Sounds like we have chicks popping everywhere.. good luck everyone.
I have some good news...I never candled my eggs because I thought you had to have a special flashlight and couldn't remember how many lumens it had to have, so on day #26 and no pipping, I went and got an LCD flashlight with 5 little bulbs in it. I was unable to find a 'candling' flashlight, but I think TSC might be going to order a few now. Anyway, I carefully took the 2 little eggs out of the incubator and turned out the light and guess what, people? You could see clear through those eggs and there were no little babies in them! I can't tell you how relieved I was that I had not killed two little chicks in their shells! No more sleepless night waiting for an unfertile egg to hatch. I slept for 3 days after I found out there were no babies inside the shells. Will try again in a month or so.
Congratulations to all of you who hatched out those precious little chicks...
