I have never seen the egg rock. Except for when one hatches out & it starts rocking all of them. That is when the shake, rock, & roll.

Well moral of the story is not to stand in front of the bator looking. No action yet - have increased humidity and stopped turning and fingers crossed I'll have some babies in the next few days.

After much watching and wishing - we have quail. So far on day17, we have 17 hatch, a few more pipping from an initial setting of 36 eggs (from the mail). I was a bit worried that they wouldn't hatch because the postal service wasn't exactly gentle with them, some arrived cracked and I had to toss out and I'm sure there were some with minute cracks in the shell that I couldn't see. This is the start of my breeding flock in suburbia so I'm very excited.

They are so very tiny though...compared to chickens.

I have babies - hatched on day 17-18. 20 hatched out of 36 set (of those that didn't hatch 1 DIS - pipped wrong end, 3 died early stage, rest clears)

Most of them look like this - some with black spots here and there. There are some goldens ie yellow with black stripes.

I'm going to give vent sexing a try - I've been staring at Niki's 'rude' photos on chick vent sexing but for the life of me I'm not sure what I'm looking for - of the 2 that I tried to vent sex, I didn't see any shiny bumps.

They sure do look tiny after chickens!
Wait until you see how fast they grow. Hearing about it just does not prepare you for how they expand!
I just added some new quail and buttons yesterday to some 3 day olds and the older ones look like they have doubled!
