Japanese Coturnix Quail Color Varieties!!!!

Thank you for this post! I received 8 “mixed” coturnix, jumbo, and silver. My chicks are all hatched and I am trying to predict which colouring they will have!

Hi all!
After reading this entire thread I still have a question about a couple of my quail!
What would you wonderful people call these colours?
The two that are similar are white with pale creamy ginger markings.
And then the small darker girl on the left - the colours aren’t true in the pic. She is a light gold colour with dusky pinky reddish markings. She’s very beautiful in real life! She’s very nervous so this is the best photo I have

Also are these two girls Pansy or have I misunderstood the thread

I love the silver variations, I’ve never seen a coturnix with it before but I’ll be looking out now!

Pharaoh- the original color one would see in the wild, wild-type pattern, dominant

MALE:

FEMALE:

Jumbo Brown/Pharaoh- Pharaohs selectively bred to be larger

English White- homozygous for recessive white. Most have black or brown spotting (NOTE a gene or dominant white has been reported and that the homozygous birds are of low viability).

Texas A and M/Jumbo White- selectively bred from English white and Jumbo Pharaohs to produce large birds for the meat industry.

Manchurian Golden- yellow gold with brown stripes. A single dominant gene for yellow changes wild type to Manchurian. The gene is lethal IF homozygous, there are light and dark tints to the Manchurian

MALE:

FEMALE:

Italian- beige to yellow with striated markings (v-marks in plummage).

MALE:

Dark British Range- Also known as Tibetan. It looks like a dark chocolate bird with a white throat. Some have more white on them, some don't have white at all. Incomplete dominant.

Rosetta- Also known as British Range. A combination of an English white and a Dark British Range. A lighter orange/tan color throughout body. The UK call them American Range. Incomplete dominant

Silver- Not much known yet, incomplete dominant

Tuxedo- two colored pied pattern. This is a result of a combination of the genes for chocolate with genes for recessive white. Recessive

Red Tuxedo- A new two colored pied pattern. Looks like a normal tux but the red replaces the chocolate. A combination of Range and English white.

Red Range also known as cinnamon? (The real cinnamon is not here in the US yet, more orangy in color)

Scarlett- Also known as Red Golden.. A nice red color with gold pinning. Incomplete Dominant

"Roux" Dilute- A lighter color of the wild coturnix. Recessive Also known as Fawn

I know it’s been a couple weeks, but I didn’t see this before.

the 2 light ones look like they might be autumn amber with fee. That means roux, Italian and fee.

the bottom ones I don’t believe are pansy. I’m not an expert, but maybe calico? I think calico has a white chest. The bottom one is interesting, it looks like it has patches of wild pattern mixed into Italian. Very pretty!

I have two that look like this; a boy and a girl

And then I have two different versions of the pale ones:
Version 1:
They have white all over and their speckles are a pinkish fawn co

And then version 2 doesn’t really have white on her, she’s like an ombre pinkish fawn colour.

I think they’re all beautiful but I’d love to know where their colours came from or what they’re called

Can anyone make guesses on this baby? He?? Is 5 weeks today and comes from predominantly Pearl fee flock (I did get 4 roux birds and 2 Pansy fee)

The males all have VERY prominent red heads/faces except for this one, who seems to have the shape of the male mask, but it’s like a pale fawn color? He does have slight cheek markings so maybe I have the gender wrong even? He’s got the least markings down the back of the group, but they are dark in color so im not sure he’s a snowie.

I’ve marked a male with a clearer cap, but similarly few spots in the top left and a similarly pale-faced female in the bottom right… then bottom left you can see Pansy fee/Italian hens with distinct cheek stripes which is what most of the females look like.

Maybe he’s homozygous for fee and the rest are het?

That bird looks like it is homozygous for fee and fawn (Italian). If a male manchurian pearl (homo fee+fawn) carries one copy of roux, it isn’t uncommon for you to see that roux around the base of the neck until it’s several months old. in birds with only one copy of fee, you’ll see even brown from pharaoh or Tibetan bleed thru at the neck and shoulder area, and even double fee doesn’t drown out all red in a full roux. If that bird had red at the head or neck it would definitely be male as hens can’t carry roux unseen. If I were guessing I would still say male due to the darker head, but the body shape is generally kind of hen looking. Have you tried putting him in a container alone and seeing if he crows for his friends?

Any guesses or insight into what these colors might be? They are only 10 days old, I'm just excited lol.

I'm pretty sure the "B"s are jumbo whites and the "C"s are tuxedos, not sure about "A" or "D" though though.
