And I'd still like to know who the breeder is.

I'll try to get his information tonight if I can find it (I know he was at the Ohio show as well).
I'll also try to take a better picture of this hen in comparisson to one of my other hens.

Okay.

Seramas are suppossed to be verticle in stance with a very short back. They don't always pose, though, so it is often difficult, especially from a photo, to see these distinguishing characteristics. There are also big differences in quality within the breed. Some Seramas, though pure, will resemble all kinds of other birds. I've even seen one that reminds me of a Dachsund!

A Serama expert with a well-trained eye will be able to spot the differences in an instant. I, on the other hand, agree that they do have a similar appearance at times.

a good quality serama in a pose havs a short back vertical wings which cover the birds legs, only leaving the foot exposed, a large chest, and a vertical tail which should tough the back of the head which is held back and you should be able to draw an imaginary vertical line from a seramas head to its foot. short legs in serama are considered a defect, opposite japenese. a good quality serama is also alot smaller than a japenese.

the main difference is that the serama is a vertical bird in posture, and the japenese is horizontal.

alot of people think they have good quality serama but have junk that look similar to a japenese bantam, a good serama hen or rooster will be remarkably and noticely different to japenese bantams.

Thanks for clarifying that

Perhaps to the trained eye. But to newcomers, sometimes it is difficult to see differences that are obvious to people who know. Another thing to consider is the Japanese show quality have the lethal gene for the short leg, so there are a lot of longer legged (still look short to me) Japanese out there that are frequently sold as pet quality. This is usually all you get from hatcheries.
