I have a 19 week Java that has laid her first two eggs, both on the roosting stick. They fell to their doom. How do I get her to move into the nesting box?

New layers often do that. It's as if they're not aware of what is going on with the first several eggs. If you haven't put a fake egg or a golf ball in your nesting boxes yet, you might try that. If you free-range your chickens and are concerned that she will lay her eggs in the yard, etc., you could keep her confined to the coop and run for a week or so until she gets the idea that the nest box is the place to make her deposits.

I had a few hens who preferred to lay eggs in a box located near the roost. I think they liked the height.
