Jax got in big trouble last night

Well we won't be egging him on again, about anything. Totally our fault. He's never reacted to the coyotes before. Told DH this morning that we're extremely lucky Jax hasn't realized he can easily clear our 4 ft. fence. Must find a way to pay for a new fence and soon!

Sounds like fun. How 'bout you just ship me some snowballs so I don't have to put up with the cold?

But then they will melt. No, the cold comes WITH the snow.

Sophie can show Jax how to knock over people in large snowdrifts. That's what started the snowball attacks. Dang dog.

Mine scale an 8ft barrier to retrieve a dumbbell as part of their training. Better to teach that it is not acceptable behavior to cross the fence line. It's basically the same premise as teaching that they don't just run out the door because it is open. Instead they wait to be told they are allowed to go through the door. Teaching these things can save a LOT of grief. Have you read Strickland's basic obedience book? Lots of good training ideas for the basic stuff that makes living with a big, forceful dog a safer, more pleasant experience--vital now that you have another one on the way. It is SO much easier to train them one at a time. Then the second one learns a lot by watching the first one be obedient to your commands. He just catches on so much faster! Of course, he catches on to the transgressions just that much faster too.

Shhhh keep your voice down. I'm using Jax as an excuse to get DH to cough up the money for a new fence, which I want anyways.

99.9% of the time Jax is a very obedient boy. When he messes up it's our fault. We've both been sick lately and letting him get away with things we shouldn't. We're back on track now.

ETA: I only mentioned the need of a new fence to DH after I saw Jax watching the cows this morning with his "elbows" resting on the top of the fence.

We can leave the gate open and he doesn't leave the yard. From the very start it seems like he has considered the yard his territory. He patrols the perimeter of it several times a day.

Lurker on the Jax & New Pup threads here. I lost track of the New Pup thread, if you have one...I'm hoping to see more photos (and remind me of New Pup's name again?).

Oh, and I second Cammy's invite to Oklahoma.

I am (not so) patiently waiting for new pics of the pup from the breeder. DH keeps reminding me to be patient, the breeder has 14 adult dogs and two litters to care for right now; so probably not alot of time for picture taking. She has promised me new pics soon.

The new pup's name will be Kane Vom Tucker. The name Kane has very special meaning for me. Like Jax he will have a nickname. Jax's nickname is Boogerhead or simply Boog. Kane's nickname will more than likely be Bubba; southernese for brother.
Anyhow, Kane is now five weeks old. I know the breeder probably tells this to all the buyers, but they told me that Kane is "the friendliest pup of the litter", "the smartest pup" and "the hands down pick of the litter".
Maybe we can all meet up sometime at a poultry show. We attended one in Idabel, OK last year.
