jealous rooster?

I had a hen that was setting and all of a sudden the rooster ran her off the nest and tried to make her go outside. She went back in, but later that evening we found her dead. Her head had been pecked to death. Could it have been the rooster or some other predator? Anybody have anything like this before?

What size is your coop and run? How many roosters per hen? Any other injuries?

In the evening, they all go back under the pigeon loft which is 16x40. During the day they, they are free range on almost an acre of land. We have 6 hens and 1 rooster. I am beginning to think it could have been one of the other hens.(?)

i wonder if something was in there and he was trying to get her out to protect her? it is anybodys guess

I would just guess Spring testosterone.
