Hello I am new to BYC but I am not new to Chickens as a kid on the farm we had chickens but now I live in town and retired I missed not being around chickens and rabbits so in am doing the back yard chickens I enjoy watching them and being around them and like the egg's when I get them. they are not laying eggs yet. I would like to know how old is a hen before she lays eggs ?
 
Hello and welcome to BYC. I hope that you enjoy your time here. A rule of thumb of 6 months old is about right for a pullet to begin laying.

Hello Jerry and Welcome to BYC.

Depending on the breed and how old they are and season can all affect laying time. normally 4-6 months, but some breeds like the Ameracauna(SP) don't lay until 8-9 months. My hens tend to lay pretty good in the winter time without added light or heat in cold Idaho winters, they get straw and seem to want more meal worms.
