Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to our flock. I used to have some Black Jersey Giants and they were truly gentle giants. BYC has an entire section on Jersey Giants at https://www.backyardchickens.com/products/jersey-giant. You should consider getting some more hens to go with that rooster. The recommended ratio of roosters to hens is 1 rooster for every 10 hens. As he matures, your rooster will become very hard physically on your hen, over-breeding her, biting and plucking the feathers from her neck and back, battering her, and potentially, seriously injuring her. Thanks. Bought them, very pretty chickens & easy going. Just don't know much about them. I have turkeys-barred rock and pigmy goats

I love my Jersey Giants.




Mine came from Cackle Hatchery and have been healthy, easy to get along with, and have a nice rate of lay of light brown eggs.
