So is it not uncommon for birds to get mixed up like this at hatcheries? Are hatcheries the chicken version of puppy mills or no? I don't really know anything about them.

It's more likely the mix up happened at the feed store. Large chains like TSC are notorious for mixing up orders and basically having no clue what they're selling. smaller places can be hit or miss, some are great, some are worse than TSC.

Oh okay got it. Not sure what TSC is, but I don't think that's what ours is? The "chicken lady" at our feed store is wonderful Thank you everyone for helping us figure this out
