Need help. I bought 3 Jersey Giant day olds from Myers sexed as hens on 3/21, so they are 6 wks. I lost my favoriteJersey Giant hen to a predator (my first loss ever in my flock) in early March and wanted to get a couple new Jersey hens to add to my small flock of 12. My 6 wks chicks are acting rooster-like with chest sparring, hopping up and down, and all 3 of them have small circles on the back inside legs which looks like the beginning of their baby spurs. None of them have developed combs yet, don't crow yet, but I'm very suspect I have 3 roos.

I already have 2 grown roos in my flock and cannot keep any more. Also, I'd like to get these babes on Craigs List quickly, find them good homes, cut my losses, and get back to Myers to try again in May with their next Jersey hatching.

Can chicks that young begin to show small signs of inside leg circles that grow into spurs? Should I wait a few more weeks to be sure? I'll get pictures posted tonight.....

Roos and hens have spur bumps. And hens chest bump as babies sometimes. They gotta find out who's boss, just like the boys do. Sounds like you'll have to wait a little bit?

So here are pics of my 3 Jersey Giants that I bought from Meyer's on 3/21 sexed as hens (on week 6). All 3 are identical in size, tail feathers look the same, combs are all very pale and small. However, they all have small circle spur marks. Roos? or really hens?
