I let the girls out to hang with the rooster in the yard tonight. As the group came out the gate, the red girl just squatted right down and the rooster went straight for her. He got her at least 3 times in the next 10 minutes. The last time she tried to run but she is maybe half his size and has short little legs so he ended up pretty much tackling her and doing his thing. Then she stayed away from the group for a while where she was "safe".
I did not notice him bothering any of the other girls. It seems to be a lot worse in the pen, probably because of the small space. I think I am going to continue leaving him loose in the yard during the day and just letting the girls out to visit him at night, or vice versa. When I looked out a while later, she was back hanging out next to him. She just loves him regardless, ha ha ha.
And i definitely am getting fertile eggs from at least one white leghorn. What an interesting cross that would be. I am going to try to keep him and just add more (bigger) girls.
