Dark brahmas aren't sex linked. They're sexually dimorphic; which is different. Sex linking means that you can tell at hatch what gender the chick is. Dimorphic means that the adults of the same breed or species look different.
Ok thanks, learn something new everyday. so is it coincidental that I have 4 black chicks and 6 that look like the older chick pictured above? Or is it the dark brahmas genetics causing some form of sexual dimorphism? There are a few chicks that are a slight darker color with penciling but they are very similar also.

I'm not sure, with this mix. I'd have to wait until they were older to judge gender and see how it turns out.

Thanks I notice that a few chicks have a gold tint also but still have the penciling. The black chicks fight each other and the other chicks constantly. I can’t keep them together, makes me think they are going to be cockerels from my past experience with them.
