jersey giant?

Oh my gosh! He is a beauty! I love JGs! We have a 7 mos old JG roo that just started getting crowing around 6 mos old and his comb and wattles finally are starting to catch up with his giant size. He is still skinny (but tall), and that makes sense since they are slow to mature. He and the JG hens still need to fill out. My JG roo still doesn't have all his hackle, saddle and tail feathers in yet (lots of pin feathers). I wouldn't worry about him not crowing yet. Some of my 7 mos old hens are barely starting to get color in their combs and face and some aren't laying yet. They're just slow.

You're roo looks splash to me, but I am not good at that kinda thing, so my opinions isn't worth squat. He is GORGEOUS though!! That breed is definitely one of my favorites (if not the most favorite!!). I want a blue or splash JG roo someday.

Here is my splash JG "Tiny" I was looking over a fence when I took it though. We didn't incubate him and whoever did wasn't very careful as he has very crooked toes now. He's nearly a year old and doesn't crow-wouldn't dare my Minorca roo would sit on him

If anyone would like to add him to their collection....PM me

My baby splash roo's legs are also this dark but mine are not Hatchery stock maybe that's the problem.

If he is from a hatchery, it is very possible that he is a JG. With that said, I still think his legs are off colored (light) for a JG. He probably isn't crowing yet, as JG take what seems like an eternity to mature. Very nice bird, hope you enjoy him!

Thanks everyone! The not crowing thing is kind of pleasant at the moment to be honest. But what about the spurs? I haven't personally seen a roo without them and his legs are very smooth in that area. I have hens with bigger bumps there than he has.

Its funny cause when i went and looked at these chickens I liked the all blue jg. She delivered a coope for me and I asked her to bring a blue roo too and she brought me him. At first I was like "what" but with a little reasearch I see. Thanks again all!

He's still very young..my Spring roos-all breeds are just now getting little nubbs on them...add JG are very slow to mature and they will come.Tiny is coming on to a year old and has little to no spurs. My 4 month old JG roos that are in the dinner pen have no spurs started yet-and won't get them

Just thought I would post an update. This rooster has gotten huge! Yeah he crows now but it is so deep it isn't bothersome. I am so impressed as to how large he is already and he still has some growing to do(no spurs yet). Is there a downside to him getting so big? He is literally twice the size if not more than some of my hens. I will deffinately have to get a recent pic! -Rachel

Aren't the deep crows beautiful! My JG roo is now 8.5 months old and he is just now getting his spurs (about 1/4-1/3 inch long stubs). Our roo is still not fully filled out and he is nearly 12 lbs. It doesn't seem to bother any of our hens though. The hens heads barely come to his back...he is SO tall! They all like and trust him more than our 8.5 lb salmon Faverolle roo. Our small 4 lb EE doesn't have a problem with the big roo ('course she is bossy and will chase him, so that is probably more the reason...she was here first and she lets him know that!

). Most of our hens are in the 6-8 lbs range we haven't had any problems (aside from having to trim his toenails since he scratches the girls sometimes).
