Jersey Giant??

Once I get a hold of her again i'll take a look at her eyes :p

And I asked them where they got the chicks from and they just looked at me and told me how much the chicks were. I couldn't get through to them

In my opinion, I think that she's just a large Australorp. Jersey Giants should have yellow feet bottoms.

Then again, I read in your other post that you got her from a hatchery... The distinct feet work well for determining differences, but with hatchery stock, they aren't necessarily breeding for show traits, so yellow feet in JG may have been ignored in favor of something like growth rate or egg production.

Well.

I guess you'll have to see. :) An Australorp hen weighs anywhere from six to eight pounds... A Jersey Giant hen can weigh ten or more pounds.

Sometimes with hatchery stock, you can only wait and see!

I hope it turns out the way you want it to.

X2 on this.

Truly, I feel like she's a large feed-store/hatchery-quality Australorp (based on sheen, color of the foot pads, eye color, and size). A JG would have stark yellow foot pads - no mistaking it.

Lorps are deceptively large birds. :) I had no idea they were so big until I actually went and picked one up. HUGE things and awesome layers!

I thought the Australorps wouldbe the same size as the Red-Star :p that's why i was so unsure. I never know they were BIG birds. She's so big that she has trouble getting into the nesting boxes. We're going to cut the box a bigger hole so that she can fit just fine XD

Ha! My husband and I made the same mistake. We purchased a few plastic ready-made nesting boxes in a pinch the night before, but when we actually got the birds home, we saw that an 8" opening simply was not big enough for our ladies. A large rubber bowl filled with hay and strategically placed golf balls seems to do the trick now. :)
