I've found a few references to extremely large roosters called "Jersey Giants." These are birds that my husband is very interested in. However, I haven't seen any references to them on any of the backyard chicken threads. Does anybody know if these are a sturdy, healthy breed, are they for meat or eggs? Where would you get them? My husband is totally fascinated by the huge roosters! I would appreciate any information you can give me!

Thank you!

I have a white Jersey Giant roo....absolutely beautiful and yes....huge. I would like to find a home for him. I don't have the heart to butcher him but can't use him for anything else. Where do you live? Would be nice if you where close enough to give him a home.

Jersey Giants are the largest chickens. They are dual purpose, good for laying and for... that other purpose....

Go here to see what Henderson's Handy Dandy Chicken Chart says about them: http://www.ithaca.edu/staff/jhenderson/chooks/chooks.html#j

I
have six of them, three "splash," two "blue" and one black. I hatched 'em from eggs purchased from Wynette here on BYC. They are HUGE. They mature quite slowly; I'm not yet sure which are cockerels and which are pullets, but I could probably figure it out this weekend.

I live about an hour east of Atlanta. How far are you from Atlanta or Huntsville or Birmingham? It's 6 hours from here to Nashville... What do you mean, you can't do anything with him? Is he mean?

Thank you all for taking the time to reply. Does anybody know if there will be any Jersey Giants shown in Newnan, GA this weekend?

Thank you
