Jersey Giants thread for pictures and discussion

Well for breeder they are bred to the standard of the breed. Where hatchery they are just bred for mass production of chicks to sell with no care of standard of the breed and most dont even come close to what a real JG should be.

Wynette & everyone here is my breeder Rooster. I have sold all my culls and he is much happier now. So much so that he let me get some good pictures if him.

Sorry about the water being dirty. I had put down dust for them to dust bath in and boy did they have fun.

He will be turning one year old this April about mid April. I would have to check my logs.
He is from Wynette - I think these are her old line now.
He is a good 15/16 pounds my scale broke so I don't know for sure right now.
I will be getting a new scale since I'm shipping a trio of Jg to LA ( state not city)
Thanks for you kind words went through a lot to get the best of the best for my breeders.
He even as a chick stood out from everyone. ( roosters)
My eye always got drawn to him and that was before I know what I really was doing.

Well, I kept 2 of the 5 blue JG I got from a breeder here in Fl. AND I think I have a boy and a girl.. *sigh*.. I can't keep roo's. I will have to post a pic but unless something major changes I have one that has an obvious pink comb at 6 weeks and the other is much less so.. the perils of hatching instead of buying grown but what are ya gonna do when you are a hatching addict?

Thanks. Wonder what size he'll be fully grown? I intend to get some SQ JG eggs before long and after I get my incubator built.

There are a lot of good breeders with sq Depending what color you go for some like the blks have more that you can readily get sq from breeders, the blues are a little harder and the whites are the hardest.
Best place to look is the NJG club. There are quite a few memebers on this thread. Most are newbies to the breed there are a few that have had them longer and us newbies ask for help alot from them. It's always better to get a few eyes on your birds as you will tend to get a liking to some more and start to over look fualts also because you see them everyday you may not pick up on it till a out side eye shows you. It's very helpful and most on here are very respectful even if it's just a pet and just wanting to show off their bird.
So welcome to the site and to the breed.

Thanks again. I like the blues, blacks and whites best. Don't care much for the splash. I have a black hen now about six weeks old of hatchery stock. She does have a great nature, very calm and will fly up in my hand and rest there. Only handled when I removed her for cage cleaning. My other chickens don't like being handled at all but will eat from my hand.

Here are the two that I kept.. boy and girl right? (ignore the sneaky black Silkie in the middle)

Their colors are awesome.. the boy is lighter and girl darker but both have amazing feathering. I will try to get some better pics but they are a in their bratty flighty phase

OH and they are about 6 weeks old
