Jersey Giants thread for pictures and discussion

I just hatched out some pure white giant's from my breeders and some white giant white silkie crosses from my extra rooster and TSC silkies.
Day old giant's
700

700

And one of my five toed black skined crosses
700

The crosses are feathering out much faster than the pure giant's.

Hello Jersey lovers!

Meet my infirmary bird. She was born on the 2nd of February this year.
In her short life she has been attacked by dogs TWICE. She is such a trooper, we nursed her back to health and she ended up spending almost two weeks living indoors with us recovering. Now she is as healthy as she can be and SUPER friendly, the only noticeable problem is that she leans SLIGHTLY. You can see in the picture that her tail is listing abit to the starboard side. It always is that way. I assume this is not a problem but if anyone thinks otherwise, I'd like to know.

That being said, the purpose of this post is to solicit new names for her as 'infirmary bird' no longer seems appropriate. I'm entertaining any and all good naming conventions.

Started with 18, at day 7 and 14 candling 11 were growing well. I checked the bator twice a day and no changes just added water as needed. Candled a few Sat, looks like they all died. Still no hatch. So bummed and ask myself what happened?

I was told by a few people dry incubation works better for them. I added no water, was running 25% humidity, filled all trays at day 18 and it went to 65%.
Was my first try with a incubator so I'm no expert.
The people on this thread can answer any incubating questions;
"INCUBATING w/FRIENDS! come hatch, learn, Chat, Meet new Friends w/ host, Sally Sunshine"

Beer Can thank you. I incubated this batch same as my first batch two months ago per the instructions and input from the hatch a long thread. I can only think the Bator got too hot between checks 3 or 2 times a day.I don't know what else it could have been.No power failures and no one but me touches the incubator. (My guys know better than mess with Mom's feather butts.) So now I am going to check into either a second batch of eggs or have chicks shipped if possible. So bummed though.

Ok new batch of hatching JG eggs due to arrive next week. Yes I am determined to get a string enough that I am obsessed. Bator issue taken care of. Husband didnt tell me he found the temp/humidity control under the eggs and it had been at 107 degrees. So there is how they got cooked last round. So keeping them in a tighter group after candling and thinning them out. Lesson learned. may have a larger bator soon too.

A few pointers that might help. Get a digital high/low thermometer. That way you will know exactly the range that your eggs are being cooked with. I have an LG that I use for hatching, and it varies greatly. The three to five days of hatching don't seem to cook them like with the full 21 days.

Second: If you have a big swing in the bator, go lower. It has worked for me. Eggs may take an extra day, but will not be cooked.

Third: Bator location. If it is in a spot where sunlight can hit it, or there is a lot of foot traffic, it can cause the temps in the bator to swing wildly. If in a spot that gets sunlight, move or cover. If in a location with foot traffic, close to a moving air source, consider covering it with something (Blanket, box, Etc.)

What type of bator?

Framac
